Our step-by-step approach

A PFAS transition requires a structured approach.

  • 1
    Inventory
Mapping installations, foam types, and application areas.
  • 2

    Analysis & Testing
Laboratory research and, where necessary, practical testing in our R&D centre.

  • 3
    Advisory report
A concrete action plan combining technical aspects, costs, and implementation.
  • 4
    Implementation support
From replacement and flushing activities to acceptance testing and certification.

PFAS Transition: InnoVfoam as a Knowledge Partner

Europe is phasing out firefighting foams containing PFAS. The reason is clear: these substances are highly persistent and harmful to both human health and the environment. For companies working with fire protection systems, this means that foam concentrates must be replaced with fluorine-free alternatives.

At first glance, this transition may seem straightforward, but in practice the PFAS transition proves to be a complex challenge. Fluorine-free foams have different physical and chemical properties, behave differently in proportioning systems, and do not always perform equivalently to their PFAS-containing predecessors. It is therefore essential that the transition is carried out carefully and on a well-substantiated basis.

InnoVfoam as a guide in the PFAS transition

InnoVfoam supports organizations throughout the entire transition process. Our role goes beyond simply supplying foam: we act as a knowledge partner that thinks along, tests, and advises.

We distinguish ourselves through:

  • Transparent advice: we work with a number of manufacturers that have proven themselves in practice. Based on testing and experience, we advise which foams best match your installation and risk profile.
  • In-house laboratory and R&D facilities: enabling us to carry out analyses and practical tests that provide insight into how foam concentrate interacts with different types of foam proportioning equipment.
  • Practical experience across multiple sectors: including the chemical industry, tank terminals, maritime applications, and paint manufacturing facilities.

This combination of knowledge and experience gives customers confidence that their transition not only complies with regulations, but is also technically reliable and future-proof.

MORE THAN FOAM

Our expertise

Innovfoam is built on experience and expertise. Here you can read more about our knowledge and approach.

The switch to fluorine-free foam is never a simple one-to-one replacement. Each system has its own points of attention.

  • Proportioning systems and application densities: fluorine-free foams may exhibit different behaviour, requiring adjustments to system settings.
  • Compatibility: existing piping, tanks, and materials must be assessed for suitability.
  • Testing and standards: performance varies significantly by product and must always be evaluated against EN 1568 and additional practical tests, such as sprinkler and small-scale tests.

Thanks to our in-house facilities, we are able to objectively document the performance of fluorine-free foams. This provides a clear understanding of both the possibilities and the limitations.

Each sector comes with its own challenges. In the chemical industry, the focus is often on compatibility with piping systems and the wide range of substances that may need to be extinguished. At tank terminals, large-scale reliability is critical, while in maritime applications space and logistics play an important role.

Our experience with a wide variety of customers shows that there is no standard solution. In some cases, a fluorine-free foam performs very well but requires minor technical system adjustments. In other situations, application densities or proportioning ratios need to be fundamentally revised. By combining practical experience with technical analysis, we are able to provide prompt and well-founded advice.

We believe that the PFAS transition can only be successful through collaboration. That is why we work closely with foam manufacturers, installers, independent consultants, inspection bodies, and fire service organizations. We also actively share our findings, ensuring that customers and partners have access to the most up-to-date knowledge.

In addition, we closely monitor developments in standards and regulations. By integrating these developments into our way of working, we provide customers not only with a solution for today, but also with a strong foundation for the future.

The PFAS transition is more than a regulatory requirement. It is an opportunity to reassess, improve, and make fire protection more sustainable. By switching to fluorine-free foams, organizations reduce their environmental footprint and comply with the most stringent regulations without compromising safety.

At InnoVfoam, we ensure that this step can be taken responsibly, with sound technical justification and efficiency. Together with our customers, we are building fire safety that is ready for the future.
