Project Description

On Tuesday, 7 July 2020, InnoVfoam officially handed over the new helideck system to the HMC Westeinde Hospital in The Hague. With a select group of invitees in attendance, the H1 helideck was successfully tested and taken into use.

HMC Westeinde already had a Helideck, but the fire protection system was managed the fire brigade. The major issue was that the fire brigade had to be on site almost continuously to oversee the 100 or so landings a year on the helideck. Partly due to changed regulations, HMC wanted to manage the fire safety in-house, so that the fire brigade was no longer needed and they could employ their own personnel to supervise these landings safely.

In cooperation with InnoVfoam, technical provisions were put in place to take over the controls, as it were, of the helideck’s fire safety system. We built a skid with an extinguishing water tank than can hold over 3,000 litres of water. It has two pumps, one of which is redundant, that can each pump up to 300 litres of water a minute. The foam proportioning system and a foam tank containing 100 litres of fluorine-free foam are placed on the skid. Mounted on the roof are two electrically operated fire monitors, both able to pump water with foam mixture at a rate of 250 to 300 litres a minute.
