The type of foam maker depends on the selected foam extinguishing system. Foam makers come in three varieties for generating low, medium and high expansion foam. The three types differ in the amount by which the foam that the system produces expands: the lighter the foam, the higher the expansion.
Low expansion foam makers are used, for example, for tank protection, in sprinkler systems or remotely operated fire monitors.
Medium expansion foam makers are used, for example, for covering a liquid spill in an enclosed area.
High expansion foam makers are used, for example, for completely filling an enclosed space such as a warehouse or aircraft hangar. The type of foam maker used depends entirely on the choice of a specific type of foam extinguishing system.
